Summary:
The episode starts off with a few kids riding up to a candy shop. I initially thought Oh No!  It's dark. The kids want candy. There's this mysterious man (the owner of the candy shop) walking out with flowers. It's not looking too good. Could this be the unsub? The flowers could be a remorse token for one of his previous kills. The screenwriters of Criminal Minds have yet to fail to surprise me. Mr. Rango is the unsub's first victim.

Two men have been killed south side of Chicago in the last ten days. The first is Michael Crowley, a repairmen who was jogging late at night. The second is Anthony Rango, a convenient store owner. Both suffered battery with fists of fiery.  Michael: crushed larynx.  Victims found with jeans and boxers pulled down to their ankles. No sign of sexual assault so Alex Blake suggested it's a message. Hotchner thinks that the victims led secret lives that the unsub wants to reveal.

Victimology:
medium risk victims,  regular work hours, repairmen attack seems opportunistic  doesn't look like hate crime because not racist, it's sexual, Rango was a MMA fighter (over 50 division) 10 in 1 record. "the number of pathogens passed during a handshake is staggering, it's actually safer to kiss," Dr. Reid. OMG I just love Reid.  J.J. "our unsub is a highly motivated risk taker, changed the M.O. too, crossed the racial barrier"  The unsub leaves empty bottles of wine and beer in the crime scene. How did he not leave DNA, if he did, why doesn't the team test for DNA? At the African American victim's crime scene, writing on the dumpster says: "Look up to the Sky", on the garage door, same thing.

Morgan recognizes that the case is about Carl Buford, who is in jail for life for serial murder (arrested in 2006). "Look up to the Sky" was what Buford used to say to Morgan. Buford was an expert at detecting vulnerability in adolescent boys at the community center and using it to his advantage. The whole community thought he was a hero for helping kids find better futures. He taught Buford how to play football. However, the truth is that Buford would give Morgan wine (what he called "God's juices"), molest him (awww....poor Morgan), and then tell him "Man up Boy! Look up to the Sky".

From Morgan's confession, the team concluded that the unsub they are looking for is someone Buford abused and was also on the football team at the community center.

Unsub M.O.
late thirties to early forties, perfect timing = high intelligence, victim selection: not planned murders, drinking problem: anger problems, subjected to act impulsively (extremely dangerous, don't go out alone), mission orientated because doesn't steal from the victims, the message  says that the unsub sees the victims as child molesters and uses that fact to justify his murders. However, he attacks men after they innocently interact with children,

They go talk to James at the gym. James is reluctant to tell Morgan because he doesn't want to ruin his football career.

J.J. gives Morgan a "you're in a safe place" speech, to help his memory recall of a football game. Did Buford give any other football player extra attention or was there anyone who was avoiding Buford subtly? Morgan doesn't remember. He insists that he goes to talk to Buford.

Buford claims that he is Mohammad Ali now. "Out of all my boys, you'd be the last I would expect to come back to me" HE"S SO SCARY. When Morgan asks for a list of boys Buford molested, Buford says he doesn't remember and that currently he's "been very busy filling my mind with knowledge" OMG SO DISGUSTING AND WTF...YOU ARE LYING! STOP BEING A CREEP!

Morgan negotiates. If Buford gives Morgan the list, Buford will not be charged with child molest. However, if Buford doesn't and Morgan lets his cell mates know that Buford is really in jail for child molest and not serial homocide (makes him look more tough), his cell mates might kill him. The list of names is long, Buford asks for a handshake, Morgan gives it to him.

Five fit the M.O. profile. One stands out like a "tiger". Name: Keron Bendor linebacker, was in the community football team, a few years older than Derek Morgan, 3 arrests domestic violence, 2 for meth-instigated assaults, lives smack in the middle of the kill zone. They go to his house. Keron runs down the fire escape because he is illegally selling weed. He says there's more to the list, those who are older and not on the team.  Rodney Harress (one of the biggest drugdealers in the neighborhood) was Buford's favorite before Morgan, who became more of a success for Buford than Rodney.

Penelope looked up extended family and connections to victims and  got Tyler Harris,(swim coach was Michael Crowley) Rodney's estranged son. The first murder was an act of revenge because just recently Sheila Good (mom) yelled at Codney after catching him molest Tyler after a swim meet.

The team gets the address of the ex-wife Sheila Good just in time to see Rodney lashes out on the new boyfriend of his ex-wife and about to kill him. Morgan talks Rodney out of it. Carl Buford would win if Rodney kills more men. Morgan confesses his past. Morgan suggests that the family (mom and son) needs Rodney. Rodney drops his gun.

The local cop realized that he couldn't tell right from wrong until today, that he got it all wrong because Carl Buford looked like he was doing good to the community (but he molested kids) while the kids whom the cop thought were delinquents were actually suffering from being molested.  The local cop gives a press conference. Morgan walks out and gives a speech on television, directing it towards all of Buford's victims and Buford himself.  "It can make you stronger, it does not need to destroy your life, it can make you fight back, it can make you spend the rest of your life protecting others"

In the plane, Morgan gets a call. Carl Buford is dead [the other fellas in jail with him found out that Buford molested kids and killed him]

MY COMMENTS:
Rating: 7.5 One of the Good Episodes with enough back story, character development, and suspense

A MUST WATCH if you want to find out more about Morgan's past. The contents of this episode is very personal to Morgan's childhood and adolescent. Justice is served at the end!

Hi my name is Lucy. I find value in watching television shows and movies not just for the entertainment but also for the insight about life and human nature. Film is a type of art, and in my opinion, life mimics art more than art mimics life, because art makes things in life more obvious.  It shows us things we miss on daily basis.
